Actuality or Wishful Thinking?

A quote from a recent broadcast of the Whitehorse Inn:

Younger generations don’t want trendy engagement from the church.  In fact their suspicious of it.  Instead they want truthful engagement with historical and theological solidity that enables meaningful interaction with transcendent reality.  They want desperately to invest their lives in something worth dying for not some here today gone tomorrow fad.

I’m just not seeing that.  What I see is a complete and total disinterest in spiritual matters, particularly things pertaining to Christianity.  People, at least those in my area that I’ve interacted with, do not want to invest their lives in anything greater than themselves.  Selfishness rules the day and superstition is the dominant religion.
